Lunatic Eyes is one of my favourite themes from the Touhou Project series, and the darker theme of the album gave my the perfect opportunity to arrange it. The original track is very all over the place tonally, so I tried to take advantage of this by arranging it in genres that are also defined by non-functional harmony and parallel chords I guess, such as Black Metal and some specific electronic music styles. So in addition to my usual influences I was really inspired by electronic and experimental Black Metal acts such as Liturgy, Fire-Toolz, Old Nick and Igorrr as well as some Industrial Metalcore bands like Darknet or Crystal Lake. I also took some subtle cues from some other arrangements of this track that I've listened to and loved throughout the decade. I like to think of this piece structurally like the battle against Reisen, with lots of variations on the same themes suddenly and unpredictably shifting around, and cut in between by weird psychedelic transition effects !
